Young and upcoming teen heartthrob SAL MINEO lived here when making his signature film, Rebel Without a Cause (1955), a stone's throw from Republic Pictures and Universal Studios in the San Fernando Valley.
His more or less out-of-the-closet lifestyle having prevented him from attaining top stardom in motion pictures, Mineo was enjoying a strong following on the legitimate stages on Broadway, on tour, and in local Hollywood productions when he was murdered in the garage pictured below, February 12, 1976. Ostensibly a victim of a mugging, the 37-year-old actor was more likely slain by a trick he'd picked up on Santa Monica Blvd.
