From my collection: Herbert Gunn/Gordon McDonald

California native Herbert Gunn (1921-1999), who also acted under the name of Gordon McDonald, was another newcomer playing service men in Hollywood WWII fare, including a preparedness short of a lightly different kind entitled, enterprisingly, SEX HYGIENE (1942). Later Gunn worked for the Mann cinema organization and ran a movie emporium in San Luis Obispo, CA.

  1. That "movie emporium" is the Fremont Theater. Mann operated it during the 1980s and early '90s, when I had the privilege of working for Mr. Gunn. The Fremont, a lovely Art Deco venue that opened in May 1942, now frequently hosts live acts.

  2. I worked for Mr. Gunn at the Fox Theatre in Bakersfield in the 1970's. He didn't seem to talk too much about his movie career, but I do remember that his office had many pictures and things from the 1940's

  3. I worked for Mr. Gunn at The Fremont Theatre in SLO. He was a kind, quiet, gentle soul. I will always think of him with great fondness. RIP Mr. Gunn.
